Greg Lewis hails from a small town in Mississippi but he has big worldwide ambitions. Professionally known as Blac Kaspa, he now calls Tampa, Florida home. He was born and raised in Itta Bena, Mississippi, birthplace of famed blues musician B. B. King. He moved to Tampa looking for a new path and direction in life. “My hometown wasn't doing it for me. All that was there for me was gangs, drugs, and factories. I felt like my city raised me to go out into the world and do bigger things” states Blac Kaspa who’s musical influences include UGK, GHETTO BOYS, SPICE ONE, 8BALL & MJG to name a few.
Blac Kaspa was bitten by the music bug at an early age. A dedicated and accomplished student through his early years, and always a person to whom language came easily, Blac Kaspa was an impressive rapper by his early teens. “I knew I had a gift of music at 14 years old. I would watch videos or listen to the radio and just freestyle about my day or what was going on around me” states Blac Kaspa. “I was blessed with a gift to put life realities into a music artform unfiltered. To me it came as easy as breathing.”
Through his music, Blac Kaspa expresses an honest view of growing up in the South.. He is making his mark as a mixtape star, dropping rhymes over hot hip-hop instrumentals, honing his verbal lyricism over whatever style of beat is thrown his way. He has established a following in short time, which had a lot to do with his business instincts. Mixtapes released on his own Broken Chainz label has circulated throughout the Florida region. Versatility and an ability to fuse underground grit with mainstream accessibility fuels everything Blac Kaspa touches. His buzz on the streets is really unparalleled concerning emerging southern artists. A lot of younger fans have described his music as “a movement that you need to experience to understand.”
Blac Kaspa describes himself as “a regular dude” who enjoys family and kids. He was given the name "Kaspa" by a close high school female friend. “She said I reminded her of the friendly ghost.” Blac Kaspa fondly remembers. It's been a long journey of trials and tribulations, but yet here he is ready to take on the world. “I see a lot of artists take their opportunity in the business and throw it away. I've already lost too much to allow this to slip thru my grasp. I'm a firm believer in Jesus, faith, and taking it one day at a time. When you have THE LORD on your side you have the ability to overcome all and any obstacles. I'm already a success, I have a beautiful family, I'm alive, and most of all I have JESUS CHRIST in my life.”
